One white dove is released at the end of the graveside service. ​​Family and guests may touch the bird before it is released. 
A Pair of Doves
Two doves are released, often used when the second parent/spouse passes on. 
Trinity Release
Three white doves are released representing God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  ​
​A fourth dove is then released, joining the Trinity in the sky before heading home.  
Seven Dove Release
Seven white doves are released in reference to the Biblical number of completion.​ Six doves followed by a spirit dove signify the completion of a life well lived. ​
