Special Education Classrooms
Ken also holds a Masters Degree in Special Education, and finds that students enjoy the hands-on learning experience with these beautiful birds. These classroom visits are tailored to your particular classroom's needs and setting. Elementary Schools
After some age-appropriate teaching about birds, Ken reads a favorite children's story about the WWI homing pigeon Cher Ami who saved the Lost Battalion. The children always get involved with the story, cheering the bird on and eagerly anticipating the exciting ending! Then they are given the chance to touch the bird before sending it off on its mission . . . to get back home safely! Senior Centers Ken is honored to have the chance to spend time with senior citizens in the Pittsburgh area. He enjoys teaching about the birds and sharing their therapeutic touch, as well as sometimes getting to enjoy some wise and wonderful stories from those in attendance! |
High Schools / Middle Schools
Ken taught science to grades 7-12 for 22 years in Pittsburgh Public Schools, so he is well qualified to present an in-house "field trip" to your students, teaching them about aspects of the birds that tie into your current unit of study. Or, just take a day to offer the students a fascinating scholastic experience of birds while simultaneously making yourself the best teacher ever! :) "Hi Ken. I just wanted to say thank you for such an awesome show! It was way more than what I expected. It was educational and very touching. We all had tears in our eyes at the dove release. It was perfect...Thank you again for a job well done!"

I want to thank you again for coming and sharing your passion with us. As I stated yesterday, we have had quite a few people come in for presentations. I feel our guys really connected to you as opposed to other presenters. You were engaging and really spoke to them and their learning abilities. Your interactions were fantastic. Everyone enjoyed your presentation immensely, and I will certainly recommend you and sing your praises. Thank you again! -Sheena Donovan, MSOL, Program Specialist, McGuire Memorial Employment Option Center
There is a surcharge for distances more than 25 miles from our Allison Park location. Releases can be done all year but must be scheduled with enough time before dusk to allow for the bird(s) to safely return home.
